What is metabolic syndrome? Metabolic syndrome is a set of metabolic disorders that is one of the main health problems today. Today we will discover some diseases associated with the metabolic syndrome.
It is important to note that this syndrome is not a new disease . However, it is quite unknown by this name. People who suffer from it tend to have excess fat in the abdominal area, that is, they suffer from some type of obesity.
The diseases that are associated with this syndrome
The metabolic syndrome has a number of risk factors that need to be taken into account . For example, one of them would be obesity (as we have already mentioned), but also high blood pressure or elevated blood glucose.
Let’s look more closely at the diseases associated with the metabolic syndrome:
1. High blood pressure
The arterial hypertension, or high blood pressure, could be defined as follows: it is the force or pressure that the blood makes against the arteries . This may not be a problem, but having high blood pressure can lead to:
- Cardiorespiratory failure.
- Heart attack.
- Renal insufficiency.
2. Central obesity
This is one of the diseases of the metabolic syndrome that we have already mentioned, but that it is necessary to treat in depth. Obesity in this syndrome is usually related to an excess of fat in the area of the waist (abdominal) .
Central obesity has a characteristic and is that it usually promotes the development of diabetes , another disease that we must take into account. In addition, cardiovascular diseases and high blood pressure that we treated earlier can occur.
How could it be otherwise, diabetes is a problem that many people suffer and can be part of the diseases associated with metabolic syndrome.
When a person has diabetes, it means that there are too high levels of glucose (sugar) in the blood. What problems can a person with diabetes have?
- Problems in the digestive system, teeth and gums.
- Problems in the skin
- Disorders related to bones and joints.
- Heart diseases.
- It can affect the kidneys and the eyes.
Medicines are usually used to treat cases of diabetes, however it is essential to have a broad knowledge of how to act in various cases to avoid the problems exposed.
4. Heart diseases
The last of the diseases associated with the metabolic syndrome includes heart disease. These have to do with the blood that is supplied to the heart and that can be blocked or diminished.
For example, if our arteries are narrowed due to cholesterol, it is important that we take into account that we can suffer a heart attack or heart failure.
What can we do with the associated diseases?
The diseases associated with the metabolic syndrome can be controlled , however although in some cases we believe that they have left and will not return (like cholesterol) we always have to stay alert.
Therefore, we recommend eating a healthy diet without excess and where good fats are present. Also, it is important to exercise. With this we do not mean that you have to sign up for a gym. But walking half an hour or an hour a day can be a big change.
In the same way, we should leave aside certain harmful habits such as smoking or excessive consumption of alcohol.
Although in some cases there will be no other option than medication, it will always be positive that we can control the diseases associated with the metabolic syndrome in a natural way. Thus, in addition, we will be adopting healthier habits that will affect our well-being.
